Test Day at Warden Law

So, on Sunday I went to Warden Law for the first time to do a test day, I was so excited to test out a new track. So the day started early as the track is in Sunderland which is around 2 hours 15 minutes away from where we live so we had to get up really early to get on the road and be at the track for 8.30, this was so I could do the track walk with Jack and also register myself there and get a membership. I couldn’t contain my excitement that morning and woke up earlier than needed but I just wanted to get on the road so we could get there, and I could go in my kart. Soon enough it was time for my mum and dad to pack up the car and for us to set off. I told my mum and dad I would sleep in the car, so I wasn’t tired and had lots of energy for karting, but that never happened as I was just so excited to get there.

When we arrived Ian and Jack were already there with my kart and were just finishing up setting it up ready for me. Me and Jack went off on our track walk, and I could tell straight away that I liked this track, it was longer than others I’d been too, and the kerbs were higher so I couldn’t wait to get out there. Once me and Jack had finished our track walk it was time to get suited and booted and jump in the kart! Sitting in the pit lane waiting for my session to start Jack went over the usual with me, warm your tyres, take it easy for a lap and learn the track etc. Then the light in the pit lane went green and it was time for me to head out. I put my foot to the throttle and off I went, I absolutely loved it out there and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, I was excited to learn this new track.

Although the track was cold and had no rubber down the first session went well, I found the racing line and began to push a little. I tested out which kerbs I could take and which I shouldn’t, on one lap I spun as I was beginning to push the limits of the track. When the chequered flag came out, I made my way to the pits ready to go over what I’d learnt, the footage and the data with Jack and to discuss where he thinks I could make changes in the next session. As always while me and Jack were doing this, Ian was cleaning my kart, changing setup and doing the pressures in the tyres. Once me and Jack had finished going over the data, I still had time left before it was time to head back to the pits. During this time, I like to do a little reaction training (I always have 2 tennis balls in my kit bag) but today as it was cold I thought I’d keep myself warm by doing some skipping, doing this keeps me warm, active and my adrenaline going. Before I knew it, it was time to head back to the pits and jump in the kart.

The rest of the day went the same way, with me pushing the limits on the track which ended in me going through the dirt and spinning a few times, but hey this is testing and it’s what I’m here for to learn and see what I can do. At the end of the day my mum and dad asked me what I thought of this track and if I’d come back, I told them it was now my favourite track, and I can’t wait to go back. Hopefully on my next test day I will be doing my ARKS test, this is the license I will need to drive in any championship next year. I can’t wait to get this and hopefully enter a few races before the start of the Superone championship next year.

I almost forgot to tell you all that today 21/10 is the 1-year anniversary since I first got in a kart at Three sisters, I can’t believe it’s only been a year, for how far I’ve come it feels like I’ve been karting my whole life! Anyway, here are some pictures of me over the last 12 months from Three Sisters to Team Karting, to having an experience day in an outdoor kart, to getting my very own kart and joining the Xkart team. I wonder what the next 12 months will bring.
