Super One Series – GYG

Rounds 3 & 4 | My First Time at GYG

This weekend was my first ever time racing at Glan-y-Gors (GYG) in North Wales for Rounds 3 & 4 of the Super One Series — and it’s definitely a weekend I’ll never forget. Going into the weekend, I was feeling excited but also a little nervous. I hadn’t been back in the kart since the last round at Rowrah, so I’d been out of the seat for nearly a month. On top of that, GYG is a track I’d heard a lot about before arriving. Everyone says it’s one of the toughest and fastest tracks in the UK, so I knew it was going to be a big challenge. The circuit itself is incredible. It’s super-fast and flowing with lots of elevation changes and technical corners that really test your confidence and commitment. Every lap feels intense, and there’s not much room for mistakes.

Friday – Practice Day

Friday was all about learning the track and getting comfortable with the layout. The weather kept changing throughout the day which made things tricky, so the team worked hard making setup changes to help me get the best out of the kart and engine in different conditions. Even though it was my first time at GYG, I felt like my pace improved every session and my confidence grew with every lap. By the end of the day, I was feeling much happier and more confident heading into Saturday.

Saturday – Round 3

Saturday stayed dry which meant I could really start pushing and learning where I could find more time around the circuit. Throughout qualifying and the heats, I kept improving and gaining confidence. I was making progress in every race and feeling more comfortable fighting through the pack.

Round 3 Results:

Qualifying: P10 → P14

Heat 1: P13 → P11

Heat 2: P13 → P9

Final: P9 → P6

Crossing the line in P6 already felt like a really good result considering it was my first weekend at GYG. After the race, we started hearing rumours around the paddock that some drivers ahead had been disqualified, but nobody knew for sure because the official results hadn’t been released yet. We waited around for quite a while hoping the rumours were true.

Then finally the results came through… I’d been promoted to P3 and got my first Super One podium 🏆 It was such an amazing feeling and definitely one of my favourite moments in karting so far.

Sunday – Round 4

Sunday stayed mainly dry again and I felt confident going into the day after the podium on Saturday. Qualifying pace felt strong, but I got caught in traffic and couldn’t put together a fully clean lap which dropped me further down than I wanted.

Round 4 Results:

Qualifying: P7 → P10

Heat 1: P9 → P4

Heat 2: P9 → P10 (dropped nose penalty moved me to P15)

Final: P9 → P6

I was really happy to finish the weekend with another strong final and another trophy for finishing P6 🏆 Considering I’d never raced at GYG before and hadn’t been in the kart since Rowrah, I’m really proud of how the weekend went overall. The best part is leaving the weekend sitting P4 in the championship standings, which gives me loads of confidence going into the next rounds.

Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone who helped and supported me throughout the weekend. Thank you to my team, mechanic, coach, family, and everyone cheering me on — it means a lot and I couldn’t do it without you 👊💪
